Update 2020: While I still enjoy the craft, I am no longer involved with Chalk Couture.
So what is Chalk Couture? Chalk Couture is a small company in Utah started by a crafter. It all started in July 2017 and the company offers everything you need to create beautiful projects, start to finish. They sell surfaces, the paste, the tools to apply the paste and a wide variety of transfers to appeal to any style. This has opened up a whole new world of crafting! Just take a look at some of the things other than chalkboards that you can add their paste to! (These fabulous images are from the Chalk Couture online catalog.)

In this post we’ll talk about how the products work, how the company works and how you can be a part of it. Then I’ll show you some examples of their products. There’s so much info to absorb!
How does it work?
So let’s start with how the products work. I have a great visual below but let me add a little detail. You simply do this:
- Remove the transfer from its backing
- Run the adhesive side of the transfer over a cotton fabric to reduce the stickiness a little
- Align and place the transfer on your surface and smooth it down to get any air bubbles out
- Using a squeegee, apply the paste/ink across the transfer and remove the excess
- Remove the transfer and clean it.
It is truly that easy!
And look how you can build colors on top of each other! Just wait until the chalk dries and then you can add a transfer right on top of it! That opens up so many possibilities!
Ombre too?? I looove this!
Now lets look a little closer at their products:
The surfaces…
Some of their higher end framed chalkboards are porcelain-coated magnetic surfaces with a 50 year warranty! They also have other chalkboards, shadow boxes, unframed chalkboards and canvas in banners, totes, clutches and pillow covers. Or you can also use your own surface!
The paste/ink…
They sell two mediums…Chalkology Paste and Chalkology Ink. The ink is relatively new but the paste is the core of their business. They both come in 3 oz tubs with lots of colors to choose from, both bright and subtle. The ink is permanent and is used on surfaces that can be heat set, like fabric and glass. The chalk is removable so if you add it to a chalkboard and want to preserve your masterpiece you’ll have to seal it. The beauty of the removable chalk is you can just wipe it off with water if you want to change up your design. It’s perfect for seasonal projects!
The transfers…
The chalk transfers are reusable silkscreens that have an adhesive back and as I’ve mentioned, they can be used on an endless number of surfaces. The company does a great job staying current by retiring images, adding new and seasonal images and providing variety in the subject matter. The transfers come in multiple sizes and the size determines the cost. They refer to the sizes as A, B, C, D and E. Below are examples of each size. Many of the transfers contain multiple images and you just cut them into individual pieces before working with them. For instance, the first transfer below is a 5×7 sheet, but there are four individual images in the sheet. Just cut along the lines to create individual transfers.
A = 5×7
B = 8.5×11
C = 12×18
D = 18×18
E = 18×24
So these are just a small sample of the products Chalk Couture has.
How to join the fun…
I was actually surprised at the variety of ways you can earn money and get free products with Chalk Couture. They have a direct sales structure and you need a sponsor to join the company and become a Designer.
The beauty of their structure, and what makes them an unusual direct sales company is that being a Designer can mean many things. You don’t necessarily need to be a Designer who throws parties, or has a booth at expos, or even searches for outside sales. You can simply and openly be in it for the 40% discount and they are perfectly happy with that decision! Now don’t get me wrong. Think of the possibilities of a 40% commission for having parties, or having booths at expos, or building an email list that grows into outside sales! They even give you your own website for the convenience of your customers ordering online and shipping right to their door! For this option you receive a 25% commission…for basically doing nothing! Oh, and you get 50% off your very first order!
In addition to all this you receive commissions for Designers who sign up as your team member. They also have incentive trips, bonuses, a 90 day Designer Debut program, an annual convention, a percentage of your personal purchases and your sales paid out in “designer dollars”, a type of store credit. The benefits are endless!
Here’s what they ask in return.
- You will purchase a $99 starter kit that contains more than $200 worth of products!
- You will be enrolled in Club Couture for a monthly fee of $20. Club Couture includes a monthly transfer automatically mailed to you each month, a website, an enormous supply of marketing and training materials to help you grow your business and entrance into an exclusive Facebook Group.
- You will commit to personal purchases, sales or a combination of $150 each quarter. This is so easy to do!
Happy tinkering…and chalking!
Susan
HI, I live in Canada and understand we can’t purchase products right now, is this accurate.
Nancy
Hi Nancy… we just got the very exciting news last week that Chalk Couture is coming to Canada! If you would like to email me at info@thetinkeringspinster.com I’ll give you the details.
If this doesn’t work out for me how long am I committed to the fee.
Hi Charmaine,
After the initial fee of $99 there is no commitment. You are required to purchase $150 a quarter to remain a designer and there is a $19.99 fee a month that includes your business on their website and a transfer sent to you. If you choose not to continue after the $99, just contact them and cancel your designership.
Hope you give it a shot!
