I’m a big fan of Weight Watchers. Over the years it has been the only proven method for me personally to lose weight. One of the things I love most about it is the ability to eat absolutely anything…in moderation. But there are two challenges with the Weight Watchers program for my rattled personality. One is I’m a snacker. Sweet, salty, crunchy, creamy…I love it all! The other is I’m a creature of convenience. So I decided the best way to meet these challenges is to find a way to organize my Weight Watchers snacks!
I’m on the road a great deal but last summer I’d planned to be home for awhile so I talked my sister into joining Weight Watchers with me. What I noticed right away is the snacker in me was in trouble! I needed a way to enjoy my snacks while still staying within the program. The creature of convenience in me knew I wasn’t going to stop and calculate points every time I walked through the kitchen and grabbed a snack. So I channeled the crafter in me to come up with a plan! (Yeah, I know. That’s a lot of personalities in one project)
My aha moment on how to organize my Weight Watchers snacks!
I went to The Dollar Store and found some plastic bins and baggies (snack and sandwich size). The bins are 10x14x5.5 which fit my cupboard perfectly. Then I created some labels, using a design I talked about in a previous post: https://thetinkeringspinster.com/2017/09/21/chalkboard-labels/
I titled the labels 2 Points, 3 Points, 4 Points and 5 Points.
Now comes the fun part…filling the bins! If you don’t already have it, download the Weight Watchers app on your phone using the app store or just go directly to www.weightwatchers.com. There is a barcode scanner on the app that makes life so easy! I took my go-to snacks and scanned the barcode for the amount of points per serving. Then I divided the bag/box/package into single servings using the baggies I bought at The Dollar Store and put them into the bin by point value. It sounds time consuming, and the first time you do it takes some time. But once you know the point values of your favorite snacks it’s much quicker to repeat the process when it’s time to refill the bins.
Happy tinkering…and snacking!
